HC Deb 20 May 1936 vol 312 c1192
53. Mr. E. SMITH

asked the Minister of Transport whether his investigations into the increased number of accidents in the city of Stoke-on-Trent are completed; and, if so, will he issue a report and recommendations?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Owing to the death of the chief constable, the local authority has asked for the completion of the investigation to be deferred until his successor has been appointed.

64. Mr. W. A. ROBINSON

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the fatal accident to Robert Percival Griffin, on 17th April last, as he was riding a motor cycle along the St. Helens Road, Eccleston Park, near Prescot; and is he prepared to make a statement why there were no red flags and no danger lights exhibited near the tar macadam heap, which unprotected heap was the cause of his death?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I have read the Press report which the hon. Gentleman was good enough to send me. I understand that the coroner has not yet delivered his verdict.

Mr. ROBINSON

Will the Minister promise that when the coroner has finished his investigations, he will discuss the matter with me, or send me further information?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Most certainly I shall always be glad to discuss any question with the hon. Gentleman, and if the coroner makes any observation which it comes within my power to fulfil, I will naturally consult with the hon. Gentleman as to what is to be done.
