HC Deb 20 May 1936 vol 312 c1180
29. Mr. MORGAN

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the Mufti of Jerusalem, whose salary is paid by the Palestine Treasury, is a member of the Arab general strike committee, and is actively organising the continuation and extension of the strike in the ports, on the railways, and in the Government services generally; and what action does the Government propose to take in the matter?

Mr. J. H. THOMAS

It is the fact that, in his capacity as President of the Supreme Moslem Council, the Mufti of Jerusalem receives a salary from Palestine Government funds. I have no doubt that if the High Commissioner considers that the political activities of any individual in Palestine are such as to call for special action, he will advise rue accordingly.
