§ 47. Mr. ALAN HERBERTasked the Prime Minister whether, since Private Members' Fridays are now exhausted, he will set aside a day for the discussion of the Marriage Bill?
§ The PRIME MINISTERIn the present state of public business I cannot hold out any hope of a special opportunity being afforded for the discussion of this Bill.
§ Mr. HERBERTWhile thanking the Prime Minister for his courteous reply, may I ask him whether in view of the fact that next week will be the jubilee of the Royal Commission on Divorce and Matrimonial Causes, he will ask the Home Secretary, by way of celebration, to prepare a Measure for the consideration of the Cabinets and, if possible, of this House in the coming Session?
§ The PRIME MINISTERIf my hon. Friend will give me an undertaking that the Measure will be non-controversial, I shall he happy to consider the matter.
§ Mr. HERBERTWill the right hon. Gentleman cause inquiries to be made of leading members of the Church and the law to find out whether there is not now some basis of agreement?
