HC Deb 18 May 1936 vol 312 cc824-5
38. Mr. LEWIS

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether, when the inter-Departmental Committee on International Airways were considering the proposal for a service to Scandinavia, they made any inquiries as to the ability of British Continental Airways to furnish such a service?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Philip Sassoon)

The facts in regard to British Continental Airways were before the committee and were fully considered by them before their final recommendation was made. As a result the committee were unanimously of the opinion that British Airways was the more suitable company to receive the Scandinavian contract, and that the negotiations already entered into with that company should proceed.

Mr. LEWIS

Has the committee addressed any further inquiries whatever to British Continental Airways or any representative of the firm?
