HC Deb 18 May 1936 vol 312 c829
53. Mr. LUNN

asked the Home Secretary the procedure by which consideration is given to the granting of long service increments to officers of the Metropolitan Police at 17 and 22 years' service, respectively; and whether, in view of the greatly increased number now falling due, he proposes to review the procedure?

Mr. LLOYD

These increments are granted under Regulations 58 and 59 of the Police Regulations. Steps are taken to bring under consideration the case of every constable when he reaches the requisite period of service, and if it is found that the increment cannot be granted because the conditions laid down in the relevant regulation are not suet, the constable concerned is informed in writing of the reasons. It may be that there will be an increased number of cases to consider in the next year or so, but my right hon. Friend sees no ground for altering the procedure on that account.
