asked the Home Secretary the number of man-hours lost in sickness in the Metropolitan police due to men taking part in games during the year 1935; and the number of man-hours taken up by the work of representatives of the branch board of the Metropolitan police during the same period?

Mr. LLOYD

The number of man-hours lost through injuries incurred by members of the Metropolitan police force in games and sports in 1935 was 81,640. The number of man-hours taken up by the work of representatives of branch boards is estimated at approximately 16,000, or, if account is taken of official time spent on elections and in travelling to and from meetings, approximately 20,000.
