HC Deb 18 May 1936 vol 312 cc836-7
12. Mr. PRITT

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that Loizos Hazilaou, a British Cypriot subject, who was travelling to Greece with a British passport bearing the visum of the Greek consulate in London, was arrested by the Greek police when he landed at the Piraeus on 18th April, marched in chains through the streets to the police station, detained for 12 hours in gaol, and then compelled to pay his fare to Cyprus; what was the reason for the arrest of this British subject; why was he expelled from Greece; and whether representations have been made to the royal Hellenic Government in regard to the treatment accorded to him?

Mr. EDEN

This case has not been brought to my notice. I have, however, requested His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Athens to make the necessary inquiries.
