HC Deb 14 May 1936 vol 312 c559
52. Colonel ROPNER (for Mr. CRAVEN-ELLIS)

asked the Prime Minister whether he will give consideration to the advisability of calling a conference of the leading industrial nations to consider world economic conditions with a view to modifying or removing high tariffs, trade restrictions, and monetary manipulation, which are the main handicaps to a general world trade revival?

Sir J. SIMON

His Majesty's Government have always worked and will continue to work for the revival of international trade, but they do not consider that any useful purpose would be served at the present time by the calling of a conference such as that suggestd.
