HC Deb 13 May 1936 vol 312 cc523-4

Motion made, and Question proposed, That the Contract, dated the first day of April, nineteen hundred and thirty-six, between His Majesty's Postmaster-General and Cunard White Star, Limited, for the conveyance of mails to and from the United States of America, a copy of which was presented to this House on the fifth day of May, nineteen hundred and thirty-six, be approved.

Mr. ALBERY

May I ask for an explanation of why this contract, dated April, 1936, is made retrospective to November, 1935?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Major Tryon)

That is necessary because of difficulties which arose in connection with the process of amalgamation.
