HC Deb 13 May 1936 vol 312 c366
22. Lieut.-Commander FLETCHER

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether His Majesty's Ship "Amphion" has now successfully completed her trials; when she is expected to leave for her station; what has been the expenditure involved by her unsuccessful trials; and by whom this expenditure will be borne?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Lord Stanley)

It is expected that the trials of the "Amphion" will be completed during the month of June and she should be ready for full commission early in July. The expenditure arising from the defects which prevented the successful completion of the earlier trials will fall on Navy funds, but the amount involved is not yet known.

Mr. ALEXANDER

Should not that charge fall on the contractor? Why should it fall on the Navy funds?

Lord STANLEY

This ship is being built under an indemnity.
