HC Deb 12 May 1936 vol 312 cc182-3
12. Sir A. KNOX

asked the President of the Board of Trade what would be the revenue from a levy of ½d. per lb. on imports of chilled and frozen beef and frozen mutton and lamb from the Dominions and 2d. per lb. on similar imports from foreign countries?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

On the basis of the quantities imported during 1935, the yield of levies on the commodities and of the amounts stated in the question would have been about £11,250,000.

Mr. THORNE

Has the right hon. Gentleman calculated the amount that would have to be charged to the consumer?
