HC Deb 12 May 1936 vol 312 c189
20. Captain MACNAMARA

asked the Secretary of State for War whether in view of the widespread unemployment in the country and the shortage of satisfactory recruits for the Regular Army, he will consider raising boys' battalions or starting a boys' company at each depot?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Duff Cooper)

A scheme for absorbing more boys into the Army is at present under consideration, and I will bear my hon. and gallant Friend's suggestion in mind.

Mr. MANDER

Will the right hon. Gentleman make it clear to these boys that, in accordance with the Government's policy, they will not expected to fight?
