HC Deb 07 May 1936 vol 311 cc1883-4
27. Mr. HOLLINS

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that a conference has been held in Stoke-on-Trent, when representatives from 60 local authorities were present, to consider the present rating system, and passed a resolution expressing the opinion that the existing system in inequitable and should be carefully considered in all its aspects, including the question of land values, and amended to meet present-day conditions; and whether he will be prepared to receive a deputation from the local authorities on the subject of the resolution?

Commander SOUTHBY

I have been asked to reply. My right hon. Friend is aware of this resolution. He will, of course, be prepared to consider any representations in support of the resolution which the local authorities may wish to make, but he does not think that at present any useful purpose would be served by a deputation.
