HC Deb 06 May 1936 vol 311 cc1679-80
13. Mr. DAY

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty how many of the ships of His Majesty's Navy are equipped with sound-film apparatus, and will he give particulars

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Lord Stanley)

Seventeen ships and establishments have, up to the present, been supplied with sound film equipment under a scheme which the Admiralty introduced last year for supplying sound film apparatus to ships' companies for recreational purposes. The equipment is hired to the ship's company and to charge falls on public funds. Other ships and establishments have sound film equipment which they have acquired privately; of these I have no particulars.

Mr. DAY

Is the Noble Lord aware that most of this apparatus is of foreign manufacture?

Lord STANLEY

My information is to the contrary. All the apparatus supplied to the Admiralty is British.
