HC Deb 06 May 1936 vol 311 cc1686-7
22. Mr. MATHERS

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the satisfactory financial position in Nigeria, outlined by the Governor in the Legislative Council, he will urge a substantial increase in the provision for education?

Mr. J. H. THOMAS

I would invite the hon. Member's attention to that part of the Governor's speech in Legislative Council in which he undertook that the claims of education should receive first consideration in the event of it being found possible to present Supplementary Estimates.

Mr. MATHERS

Will the right hon. Gentleman use his influence to see that a proper grant is made in respect of education?

Mr. THOMAS

I will certainly encourage any steps towards that end.
