HC Deb 06 May 1936 vol 311 cc1689-90
29. Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is in a position to make a statement with reference to the further electrification of main-line railways and the result of the latest investigations made by the Railway Companies' Association and their conclusions?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

I am informed by the Railway Companies' Association that, apart from the schemes referred to in the Railways (Agreement) and London Passenger Transport (Agreement) Acts, 1935, the only other proposal at present definitely decided upon is the electrification of the London and North Eastern line from Newcastle to South Shields. The London Midland and Scottish Railway Company have under examination certain additional sections of line which might be suitable for electrification, but have not yet reached any decision in the matter.

Mr. DAY

Has a representative of the right hon. Gentleman's Department had consultation with the association?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

We are informed.
