HC Deb 26 March 1936 vol 310 cc1381-2
7. Mr. BATEY

asked the Minister of Labour how a trading estate in the east part of the county of Durham will help the unemployed miners in the South-West Durham area?

Mr. E. BROWN

The object of the trading estate is to benefit the area in which it is situated as a whole. Except to this extent, I am not aware that it has ever been suggested that its establishment would immediately affect the employment of persons living at a distance from the site selected.

Mr. BATEY

As the trading estate is expected to help the eastern part of the county, will the Minister say what will be done for the south-west part?

Mr. BROWN

Not in this connection.
