HC Deb 26 March 1936 vol 310 c1396
48. Mr. JOEL

asked the President of the Board of Education by what date the inquiry into the adequacy or otherwise of playing fields and physical training arrangements at elementary schools will be completed?

In January last the Board issued a circular on physical education, in which they expressed the hope that the authorities would survey the needs of their areas for playing fields and facilities for physical training and organised games. The authorities are showing great interest in the circular, but I think my hon. Friend will agree with me that this matter is not one which can be dealt with by means of a survey, subject to a time limit.
