HC Deb 19 March 1936 vol 310 c593
35. Mr. PALING

asked the President of the Board of Education whether any steps have been taken by the board to carry out the recommendation of the Royal Commission on Licensing, paragraph 699, that His Majesty's inspectors should inquire as to the extent to which instruction on the dangers of alcohol is carried out in the schools they visit; and can he present any return or report showing the results of the inquiries made?

Mr. STANLEY

The board's Handbook of Suggestions on Health Education contains a chapter on the hygiene of food and drink, which was revised after the publication of the report of the Royal Commission on Licensing, and the board consider that a knowledge of its contents should be regarded as part of the necessary equipment of every teacher. His Majesty's inspectors have been instructed to pay particular attention to, and to report on, the health instruction given in schools, but I am unable to furnish a report such as the hon. Member desires.
