HC Deb 19 March 1936 vol 310 cc605-6
65. Mr. R. J. TAYLOR

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the injurious effects to health and property from burning pit-heaps, he is prepared, either through the Commissioner for Special Areas or by making a direct grant, to assure the funds necessary to deal with this problem?

Sir K. WOOD

There are no funds at my disposal out of which a grant could be made for this purpose. Any proposal for a grant out of the funds available to the Commissioner would be a matter for his consideration.

Mr. LAWSON

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is one of the jobs that the Commissioner was appointed to do, and why is he not getting on with his job?
