HC Deb 18 March 1936 vol 310 c420
29. Mr. MARKLEW

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware that 50 local labourers engaged on construction work at the Manby (Lincs.) aerodrome were discharged on Saturday, 7th March, and their places filled immediately by the engagement of 50 Irish immigrants; and whether such practice is in conformity with the terms and conditions of contracts entered into by his Department for aerodrome construction?

Sir P. SASSOON

I am informed that the men were discharged because their particular work had come to an end, and that they have not been replaced. The second part of the question therefore does not arise.
