Mr. SORENSENasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether 437 he is aware that in certain cases anti-Fascist literature has recently been stopped from entering this country; whether any general instructions have been given as to preventing Italian literature from entering the country; and whether there is or has been any discrimination between Fascist and anti-Fascist literature in this respect?
§ Mr. W. S. MORRISONI am aware that two small postal packets of anti-Fascist leaflets printed in Italian were recently detained by the Customs pending the production of evidence in support of the contention that they did not come within the prohibition on goods of Italian origin. Such evidence has now been produced and the goods have been released. General instructions have, of course, been issued to prevent Italian goods within the scope of the prohibition from entering the country, but I would point out that there is an exemption in favour of newspapers, periodicals, printed books and printed music. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
