HC Deb 17 March 1936 vol 310 c233
67. Mr. HEPWORTH

asked the Minister of Health whether he has any statistics to show the number of local authorities owning electricity undertakings who refuse to give their tenants a choice between gas and electricity; and what is the attitude of his Department on the subject in respect of all houses for which any subsidy is granted by the State?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Mr. Shakespeare)

I would draw my hon. Friend's attention to the provisions of Section 27 of the Gas Undertakings Act, 1934, which makes it unlawful for a local authority to insert in any instrument in connection with the sale or letting of houses owned by them a provision restricting the right of the owner or occupier to take a supply of gas.
