HC Deb 16 March 1936 vol 310 cc40-1
91. Mr. CREECH JONES

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will consider, with a view to reducing the number of road accidents, regulations governing the construction of motor vehicles in respect of the height of seats and sweep of vision so that drivers are assured of a full view of the road?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Captain Austin Hudson)

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders will, I understand, at the request of my right hon. Friend, shortly be in a position to make recommendations on this matter.

93. Captain STRICKLAND

asked the Minister of Transport whether in view of the hardship to operators, he will consider raising the maximum back axle weight at present allowed on four-wheeled vehicles from eight to nine tons, as long as the total gross weight does not exceed 12 tons?

Captain HUDSON

My right hon. Friend will shortly issue a draft Regulation to this effect; he will however be prepared to consider any objections that may be raised to it.
