HC Deb 12 March 1936 vol 309 cc2288-9
13. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will consider the advisability of appointing a committee to inquire into the present operation of the Fair Wages Clause of the House of Commons, having regard to the existence of certain imperfections and the importance of the questions likely to be raised as s result of the Government's rearmament scheme?

Lieut.-Colonel MUIRHEAD

As at present advised, my right hon. Friend does not think that it is necessary to consider the appointment of a committee as suggested by the hon. Member. As a result of representations made by the Trade Union Congress General Council, the operation of the Fair Wages Clause is under consideration, but I do not anticipate any difficulties in connection with the contracts under the defence programme.
