HC Deb 12 March 1936 vol 309 c2302
47. Mr. KIRBY

asked the Minister of Health whether he is prepared to introduce legislation whereby vermin-infested old bricks taken from demolished dwelling-houses shall be prohibited from use in the construction of new dwelling-houses of any kind?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Sir Kingsley Wood)

In view of the power conferred on local authorities by Section 82 of the Housing Act, 1935, to cleanse from vermin any house to which a demolition order or clearance order applies, before it is demolished, I do not consider further legislation necessary.

Mr. KIRBY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that, while local authorities are spending huge sums on the building of new property, there are many thousands of new houses which, unless special measures are taken, will be incapable of occupation by human beings by reason of their occupation by other creatures?

Sir K. WOOD

That question will certainly be borne in mind.
