HC Deb 10 March 1936 vol 309 cc1961-2
37. Mr. TURTON (for Lieut.-Colonel Sir ARNOLD WILSON)

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will consider the issue of a circular to county councils calling upon them to make a survey of villages within their administration upon unlighted roads, and at

present unprotected by a speed limit, with a view to ascertaining which of them should have the protection against the danger of speed by day and the nuisance of noise and vibration by night, which is afforded by a speed limit?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Captain Austin Hudson)

My right hon. Friend has drawn the attention of local authorities to the need for making a survey of their districts and to the question of applying speed limits in unlighted villages. If, however, my hon. and gallant Friend thinks that in particular areas insufficient consideration has been given to the matter and will give me the necessary information in any appropriate case, my right hon. Friend will communicate with the county council concerned.
