HC Deb 10 March 1936 vol 309 cc1950-1
19. Mr. DAY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the Cinematograph Films Act, 1927, is working satisfactorily at the present time; does he propose introducing any legislation to amend any portion of this Act; and will he give particulars?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The Act, which expires in 1938, is, I think, achieving the objects for which it was passed. As regards the latter part of the question, I have nothing to add to the reply I gave on 25th February to the hon. Member for South Croydon (Mr. H. G. Williams).

Mr. DAY

Has the Advisory Film Committee suggested any alterations?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I could not say without notice.

Mr. DAY

Does the Minister not realise that the Act is working at the present time in an entirely different way from that in which it was intended to work?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

No, Sir, I do not agree with that statement.
