HC Deb 09 March 1936 vol 309 cc1782-3
25. Mr. McENTEE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will consider favourably a reduction in the fees charged to persons to whom passports for travelling abroad are issued?

Viscount CRANBORNE

As stated in reply to a somewhat similar question asked on 18th December last by the hon. Member for Shipley (Mr. Creech Jones) this matter has recently been the subject of very careful consideration, but I regret that it is not possible in present circumstances to contemplate the loss of revenue which would be involved in the adoption of the hon. Member's suggestion.

Mr. McENTEE

In view of the fact that most passports are issued merely for one short holiday in a year, will the hon. Member consider issuing a passport for one year at a reduced cost?

Viscount CRANBORNE

This matter has been very carefully considered but I will bring my hon. Friend's suggestion to the notice of my right hon. Friend.

Miss WILKINSON

Will the Noble Lord consider when issuing passports the inclusion of a circular warning persons visiting Italy against the dangers of political defeatism?
