HC Deb 09 March 1936 vol 309 c1777
12. Commander BOWER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what are the consular arrangements for the protection of the interests of British subjects in Libya; and whether any augmentation of these facilities has lately been made or is in contemplation?

Viscount CRANBORNE

The interests of British subjects in Libya are normally under the protection of His Majesty's Consul at Tripoli, with a subordinate Vice-Consulate at Benghazi. A full Consul has recently been appointed to Benghazi with a view to the better protection of British interests in Eastern Libya.

13. Commander BOWER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the approximate number of British subjects resident in Italian Libya?

Viscount CRANBORNE

About 2,000.
