HC Deb 05 March 1936 vol 309 cc1562-3
64. Mr. L. SMITH

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to the proposed Franco-Rumanian agreement under which Rumania's oil royalties, representing her remaining asset, have been mortgaged for purchases of armaments in France and for the benefit of French bondholders; and what steps he proposes to take to safeguard the interests of Rumania's British creditors?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Yes, Sir, my attention has been called to reports which have appeared in the Press in regard to the proposed Franco-Rumanian agreement, and the matter is receiving careful consideration.
