asked the Secretary for Mines the total amount of royalties on coal drawn in the counties of Durham and Northumberland, respectively, for the year 1935; and what amount was drawn by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for the same period?

During the year 1935 the estimated amounts paid by colliery owners in the counties of Durham and Northumberland in royalties and way-leaves, including the rental value of freehold minerals where worked by the proprietors, were £695,000 and £323,000, respectively. The amounts of the royalties received by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in respect of the coal belonging to them, drawn in the counties of Durham and Northumberland for the year ended 31st March, 1935 (the last year for which figures are available), were £200,200 and £17,200, respectively.
