HC Deb 02 March 1936 vol 309 cc998-9
53. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he will give particulars of any sound films that have been made or subsidised by the Government for the purpose of adver- tising Empire overseas trade products in Great Britain?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. Douglas Hacking)

So far as I am aware, the only films which could be so described are those to which my right hon. Friend referred in his reply to a question by the hon. Member on 25th February.

Mr. DAY

Were these films made by British-controlled companies in this country?

Mr. HACKING

I think the hon. Member had a reply to a very similar question when he asked this question on the last occasion.

Mr. DAY

Will the right hon. Gentle man take the trouble to look up the previous reply? If so, he will find that the answer did not cover my present question.

Mr. HACKING

I repeat that this is practically the same question that the hon. Member asked a few days ago, and consequently the reply was almost the same.
