HC Deb 29 June 1936 vol 314 cc23-4
47. Mr. MABANE

asked the Prime Minister whether he is prepared to tell the House that it is the intention of the Government that no arms shall be allowed to get through to the Abyssinians?

Sir J. SIMON

I would refer my hon. Friend to the Prime Minister's statement on this subject in the course of last Tuesday's Debate, to which I have nothing to add.

Mr. MABANE

Has the attention of my right hon. Friend been drawn to the statement made in the country to the effect that the House of Commons was told that no arms were allowed to get through to Abyssinia, and will he agree that no such statement was made in the House of Commons by the Prime Minister?

Sir J. SIMON

The statement is certainly not correct: it is not what the Prime Minister said.

Miss RATHBONE

But is not a refusal to allow arms to get through to Abyssinia through Somaliland tantamount to a refusal to supply arms to the Abyssinians?
