HC Deb 25 June 1936 vol 313 c1955
62. Colonel ROPNER

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that the application of the National Farmers' Union for the imposition of a duty on foreign malting barley has been before the Import Duties Advisory Committee since December, 1934; and whether, in view of the serious plight of the barley growers in this country, he will consider the necessity of introducing special emergency legislation to provide immediate assistance?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Elliot)

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply I gave on 21st May to a question on the subject by my hon. Friend the Member for South-West Norfolk (Mr. De Chair), of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. De CHAIR

Can the Minister say whether there is any appeal in this matter against the decision of the Import Duties Advisory Committee?

Mr. ELLIOT

I am afraid that I cannot.
