HC Deb 25 June 1936 vol 313 cc1929-30
13. Mr. CREECH JONES

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the premises of the Edgware Road Employment Exchange are, owing to their lack of ventilation and unhygienic conditions, unsuited for the work of his Department; that they are having a detrimental effect upon the health of his staff, as witnessed by the high percentage of sick leave; and whether he is taking any step to remedy this state of affairs pending the erection of the new premises?

Lieut.-Colonel MUIRHEAD

This ex change will be re-housed as soon as possible. The existing premises were erected in 1924 and are admittedly not satisfactory under present conditions, but I do not think the somewhat higher percentage of sick leave can properly be attributed to the state of the premises.

Mr. CREECH JONES

When may we expect that the works will be put in hand?

Lieut.-Colonel MUIRHEAD

I could not give a date.

Mr. JAGGER

Will it be before or after Walworth Road?
