asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that any member of the Legislative Assembly of India can be proceeded against for uttering treasonable, seditious, or defamatory words in the Assembly; how many such cases have occurred in the last three years; what form the proceedings took; and by whom they were initiated?

Mr. BUTLER

No, Sir. Section 67 (7) of the Government of India Act specifically bars proceedings in any court in respect of speeches made in the Indian Legislature.
