HC Deb 11 June 1936 vol 313 c398
83. Mr. PURBECK

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of the fact that the expense of conveying the Emperor of Ethiopia from Palestine to Gibraltar has so far been borne by the British public, whether he will make an application to the League of Nations that this charge should be borne pro rata by that body and not fall entirely on Great Britain?

Viscount CRANBORNE

No, Sir.

Mr. PURBRICK

In view of the fact that the state of war still officially exists between Italy and Abyssinia was it not a breach of our neutrality for us to succour either of the combatants?

Viscount CRANBORNE

No, I do not think it was. I think that it was a very proper courtesy to extend.
