HC Deb 11 June 1936 vol 313 c369
14. Mr. DAY

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the housing shortage for the working classes in Central London, he would consider alleviating the difficulty of the housing authorities by allowing them to acquire the Holloway and Pentonville Prison sites, by removing these prisons further from the thickly populated area of London?

Mr. LLOYD

This question has been considered on various occasions in recent years, but in view of the difficulty of finding alternative accommodation for the large number of prisoners who would be displaced, it is not at present practicable to close either Holloway or Pentonville.
