HC Deb 11 June 1936 vol 313 cc364-5
10. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Minister of Labour whether it meets with the approval of his Department that under the Unemployment Assistance Board regulations a special advance made to an unemployed man for the purchase of a pair of boots for one of his children should be recovered by means of weekly deductions from the amount of his allowance?

Lieut.-Colonel MUIRHEAD

I understand that the decision as to the recovery of advances of this kind depends on the circumstances of the particular case. It is a matter within the board's discretion and not subject to my right hon. Friend's approval. If the applicant is dissatisfied with the decision, he has the usual right of appeal to an appeal tribunal.
