asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why martial law has not yet been enforced in Palestine, as it was during similar troubles in Ceylon and Cyprus?


Martial law has not been proclaimed in Palestine because, having regard to the extensive powers conferred on the High Commissioner by the Palestine Defence Order in Council, it has not up to now been thought necessary or desirable to do so.
