HC Deb 29 July 1936 vol 315 cc1495-6
4. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any statement to make with reference to the present situation in Austria and matters arising out of the recent Austro-German agreement and the consequent release of prisoners in Austria?

Mr. EDEN

As regards the situation in Austria as affected by the recent Austro-German Agreement, I have nothing to add to previous public statements which have been made on this subject. As regards the remainder of the question, I understand that an Austrian delegation proceeded to Berlin on 26th July to discuss the questions of economic relations and travel between Austria and Germany arising out of the agreement, and I am informed that a political amnesty, applicable alike to members of all political parties in Austria, was proclaimed on 25th July and has already entered into force.

Mr. MANDER

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether it is intended to include in the release of prisoners those whose liberty has been restricted by administrative decree?

Mr. EDEN

I should like to have notice of that question.

Mr. MANDER

Will the right hon. Gentleman be good enough to make inquiries on the subject?
