Mr. THORNEasked the Minister of Transport whether he can give the House any information relative to the test of a number of road drills that have been fitted with silencers; whether this experiment has met with success for the reduction of street noises; and what steps are being taken for the fitting of silencers to all road drills used in public thorough fares?
Captain HUDSONThe Westminster City Council arranged a test of a number of road drills on 21st July, 1936, which was witnessed by officers of my Department. Measurements of noise were made 1099 by the National Physical Laboratory. I understand the Westminster City Council will publish a report upon the results of the test, and until that report is available I am unable to make any further statement.
