HC Deb 21 July 1936 vol 315 c253
64. Sir ARNOLD WILSON

asked the Minister of Transport whether, before introducing fresh legislation dealing with highways, he will promote a Bill to consolidate the law relating to highways, which is now contained in some 40 Statutes covering 400 years?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Captain Austin Hudson)

While my right hon. Friend is not prepared to delay the introduction of legislation in regard to trunk roads, the advisability of consolidating the law relating to highways is engaging his attention. He shares my hon. and gallant Friend's view that the proposed legislation is an added reason for making progress in the direction of consolidation as soon as is practicable.
