HC Deb 20 July 1936 vol 315 c39
72. Mr. LOGAN

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will be prepared to take over the Queensway Mersey Tunnel as part of the Government's policy of road control schemes?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Captain Austin Hudson)

I can add nothing to the answers which my right hon. Friend gave on 6th July when he announced the scheme.

Mr. LOGAN

Seeing that it has not been answered, is it possible to make any reply to what I have asked?

Captain HUDSON

If the hon. Member will look at the answer he will see that the proposals do not apply to any roads in metropolitan and county boroughs in England and Wales. The Mersey Tunnel lies between two county boroughs.

Mr. LOGAN

Seeing that a number of roads are being taken over and this is a main highway between Lancashire and Cheshire, is it not possible to take it over?

Captain HUDSON

I think the answer covers that point. The tunnel lies between two county boroughs.
