HC Deb 20 July 1936 vol 315 cc35-6
64. Mr. ELLIS SMITH

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he will consider the need for the publication of the surveys carried out in accordance with the board's suggestion 7 in the Circular 1443?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

As Circular 1443 was not issued until December, 1935, reports of any surveys conducted as a result of the suggestion made in paragraph 7 of the circular will not as a rule be available until the receipt of the school medical officers' annual reports for the calendar year 1936. It is, therefore, too early to consider the question of publishing the results of the surveys.

Mr. SMITH

In view of the fact that the Minister, when he was dealing with this suggestion some time ago, asked Members of the House to use their influence in order to see that it was carried out, may I ask how Members can know the position unless the surveys are published?

66. Mr. SMITH

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is satisfied with the administration of Circular 1443, which deals with the provision of meals for children attending public elementary schools?

Mr. STANLEY

As stated in the reply which I gave on 19th March last to the hon. Member for Clay Cross (Mr. Holland), I have no reason to suppose that local education authorities generally are not carrying out the recommendations of Circular 1443.
