HC Deb 20 July 1936 vol 315 cc1-2
1. Vice-Admiral TAYLOR

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the personnel of the Royal Air Force stationed in Quetta at the time of the earthquake last year have all received the compensation due to them for loss and damage to clothing, etc., and expenses incurred by them for accommodation, as a result of the earthquake?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Butler)

I presume that all claims for compensation due under regulations to personnel of the Royal Air Force for loss or damage to service equipment and clothing have been settled, but I have no direct information on this point and am having inquiries made. I am not clear to what expenses for accommodation my hon. and gallant Friend refers, but if he will inform me, inquiries on this point will also be made.

Vice-Admiral TAYLOR

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the expenses incurred for accommodation referred to by me were on account of accommodation taken by them to replace that destroyed by the earthquake?

Mr. BUTLER

So far as I can see, free accommodation was provided for those who were being evacuated. If the hon. and gallant Gentleman can supply me with any further information as to what he has in mind, I will make inquiries.
