HC Deb 20 July 1936 vol 315 c22
54. Mr. MABANE

asked the President of the Board of Trade, whether his refusal to undertake a census of distribution is based on the cost it would involve or on the view that accurate statistical information about the distributive process would not be likely to assist the Government or the industry itself to tackle the problem of distribution?

Captain CROOKSHANK

My right hon. Friend is not satisfied that the value of the results likely to be obtained from a census of distribution would be commensurate with the cost, or that there is such general support for this proposal that he would be justified in introducing the necessary legislation.
