HC Deb 20 July 1936 vol 315 cc33-4
61. Mr. McGHEE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air the purchase price paid for Kemble aerodrome and the cost of clearing, laying to grass and the erection of the necessary buildings; and for what purpose this aerodrome is to be used?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Philip Sassoon)

It is not yet possible to give the figures for which the hon. Member asks; the purchase price has not been settled, and detailed estimates of the cost of preparing the site and erecting the necessary buildings have not been prepared. This aerodrome is being provided to meet certain essential requirements arising out of the expansion programme of the Royal Air Force.

Mr. MacLAREN

Are we to take it that the Government have entered into a commitment for an aerodrome without knowing the initial cost?

Sir P. SASSOON

It is the subject of negotiation.
