HC Deb 15 July 1936 vol 314 c2039
51. Mr. JENKINS

asked the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defence the total value of orders placed in the United Kingdom in connection with the Government's re-anmament proposals; and similar information for the Special Areas of South Wales and Monmouthshire, and the North-East Coast, respectively?

Sir T. INSKIP

As the Prime Minister stated on 22nd June, consideration has been given to the question whether a method can be devised of making particulars of Government contracts placed in the Special Areas avail able. I hope to be able to give some information at an early date.

Miss WILKINSON

Has the Cabinet yet considered that other-things-being-equal clause, which in fact renders nugatory any attempt on the part of the Cabinet to allocate a reasonable allowance to the distressed areas?

Sir T. INSKIP

The hon. Lady is in error in saying that that provision has been nugatory, and if she will await the statement which I hope to make in a few days, she will see that that is the case.
